Black and White Film Photography
Growing up in the rural landscapes of Japan, enveloped by the serene embrace of trees and mountains, nature has been a constant and significant presence throughout my life. In the midst of today's digital age, where there is an overflow of information and images, I find solace by immersing myself into the immediate and personal practice of photography.
COVID-19 heightened my awareness of the intrinsic value of mental well-being and the natural world's effortless ability to ease the human body. Photography, particularly the art of film photography, emerged as a medium that grants artists the time to contemplate and reflect on our surroundings, fostering patience through repetitive practice. The series serves as an encapsulation of how nature reveals itself through my lens and how the nuances of black and white photography evoke feelings of mellowness and consolation for viewers.
This process becomes a retreat, offering a moment of quiet and tranquility as I delve into the thematic exploration of nature. This series is an encapsulation of nature through my lens and how the nuances of black and white photography evoke feelings of mellowness and consolation for viewers. Through this, I aim to express appreciation and contemplate the inherent calmness and stability found in nature.
